Dental fillings are straightforward, simple procedures performed in our office, primarily in the case of cavities, wherein Dr. Sala removes any existing decay and fills in the area with a tooth-colored composite material.

On occasion, we will monitor an area that appears susceptible to cavities throughout your regular cleanings to make sure decay does not progress. Other times, the decay has penetrated the tooth to the point where Dr. Sala will indicate that the area should be filled without delay, to prevent the need for more extensive restorative treatment on the tooth.

Some patients have old silver fillings that we recommend replacing with newer composite material. Silver fillings have a lifespan; they expand and contract with age and temperature and can eventually crack the tooth, which then needs to be crowned. Dr. Sala will let you know if he recommends replacing those fillings or not.

For patients with gum recession, we can place composite material like a filling for decay to protect the tooth from being too exposed and reduce or prevent sensitivity.

Whatever your specific circumstances, you can rest assured knowing that we will recommend the best possible course of treatment for you.
